First of all, we are so glad we took the risk on the RV and went for it. It has been the greatest way to travel with a toddler that we can think of. We highly recommend it if you love traveling. They get a constant interior environment and foods they know while getting to explore new areas and meet new kids outside. So, our thoughts after the first trip:

  1. 3-3.5 hours as the google flys was a good starter drive while we gauged how 2.5 year old Jordan would do. She did great. We probably could have pushed it to 4-5 just as well if we had known and saved on number of stops. We did half of the drive before lunch. Then, we stopped for a break and lunch. Then, Jordan would nap in the car during the second half.

  2. Prioritize full hookups (or water & electric) and a good campground playground, at least while learning the ropes of RV life. It made for a more relaxing trip when one of us (Bruce) could bring Jordan straight to the playground while the other (Anjuli) set up, and then swap off while Bruce cooked. Jordan got twice as much play time that way.

  3. Puddles were meant to be splashed. A good pair of rain boots and a rain suit are necessary.

  4. Snacks! Just, snacks! This is not specific to RV travel or to toddlers.

  5. Rocks were all the toys she needed at the beaches. She was pretty easy to entertain at this age and just rode in the backpack looking around on the hikes.

  6. Let them try more than you think they can do. Jordan surprised us with her abilities, like climbing that long, long flight of stairs at the skyline trail and countless playground obstacles.

  7. Cute toddler hiking gear is always worth it for the memories and adorable factor.

  8. Take lots of photos and videos! It's already fun looking back at how little she was.
